The spell lab / Frostbolt
See the next rank before you pick.
Explore Frostbolt’s source-based damage, cooldown and target count across eight ranks. Compare Blessing of Might and Arcane Intellect with the assumptions visible.

This lab models one spell in OutThisLife’s fixed community revision. It does not simulate Aethus’s original game, critical hits, enemy defenses or actual damage per second. Rank and passive choices here are examples you control, not a promise of the next level-up offer.
Mage / ranged opener
Frostbolt
0 yd radius
Comparing rank 2 with rank 3, without passives.
All other stats held at base. Range stays at 24 yd and radius stays at zero. Values are rounded to two decimals for damage and three for seconds; the game card can round differently.
Read the change, then consider the crowd.
At rank 3, Frostbolt gains another target in this source model. That is a different change from increasing the damage to one target. Compare the number of enemies you need to reach, then check whether your movement keeps those enemies in range.
Change Might while holding the spell rank steady to see its damage multiplier. Change Intellect to see the shorter cooldown. The lab applies your selected passives to both the current and next spell rank; it does not compare two different passive loadouts at once.
The formulas behind the specimen.
- Damage =
12 × (1 + 0.3 × (rank − 1)) × (1 + 0.1 × Might rank). - Cooldown =
max(0.2, 1.3 × 0.93^(rank − 1) × max(0.35, 1 − 0.08 × Intellect rank))seconds. - Targets = one base target, plus one at each of ranks 3, 5 and 7.
Source: Frostbolt’s base definition, rank formulas, passive stat calculation and card-derived values. The arithmetic uses JavaScript numbers; the source game uses floating-point values and its own display rounding.
Put the numbers back into the run.
The next card may offer a new spell or a passive instead. Use the spell-slot rules to understand eligible choices, or compare the full passive catalog. For a different opener, return to the nine-class reference.
